FDNY Engine 6 Company was among the first responders to the call on 9/11 as the pumper was specially designed to pump water through the standpipe to fight fires in skyscrapers, particularly the World Trade Center.
On September 11, six firefighters from Engine 6 were dispatched to the World Trade Center. This chalkboard called a "Riding List" shows the duty roster for September 11. It was never erased.

Paul Beyer — NOZ. = Nozzle
Billy Green — B.U. = Back-up (assists in control of the nozzle)
Thomas P. Holohan — CONT = Control (responsible for hose connections to standpipes and between hoses)
William "Billy" Johnston — DOOR. = Door (ensures that the hose doesn't get kinked)
